The PADI Divemaster Course
Produces Divers With Exemplary Diving Skills & Instructor Level Knowledge
Pre-requisites. 18 years old; logged 40 dives; Advanced and Rescue Diver; Medically approved for scuba diving by a physician within 12 months, CPR and First Aid certified within 24 months.
Certification. Meet all Performance Requirements (Below) and have logged 60 dives including deep, navigation and night dives. You must have good atitudes / behavior such as being punctual, be a team player, responsible and mixes well with everybody in a Dive Center.
Knowledge Development. 2 parts.
A. Dive Theory. (This is also suitable for DMs wishing to refresh their knowledge of dive theory before their IDC or IE. Use the file Richmei Manual).
A good way to start the course is to do independent study where you:
1. Do the Open Water Diver Course Exam A. Understand any missed questions and discuss with your instructor if necessay. Try Exam B. Do well? Go to 2.
2. Read up as many of the the Adventure Dive Knowledge Reviews Answer Keys ( available from the PADI Website -PW) . Altitude, navigation, PPB, Project Aware, Coral Reef Conservation and so on. (Good for your general knowledge of diving).
3. Read the knowledge reviews of the Rescue Course - (PW) and try the Rescue Exam A (buy). Do well, go to 4. Otherwise study the course manual and return to the Rescue exam A and then Exam B. Discuss with instructor as necessary.
4. Complete the 9 Knowledge Reviews of the DM course. Use the DM Manual and DM Course Outlines as required. If you need more knowledge of dive theory, sources are the Dive Theory Knowledge Workbook (Should be completed), DM course Chapter 9 Outlines on the 4 of 5 exam topics of Physics, Physiology, Decom Theory, Equipment (PW).
5. Try a trial Theory Exams. Do well. Do other provided trial exams. Practice until you get at least 95% in all the exams. Otherwise go back to more study / discussions with your instructor
6. Final Dive Theory Exam. Ensure you have Completed DM knowledge Review 9. You are now ready for the current DM Exam A or B Part 2.
B. PADI Standards and Procedures Exam.
7. Refresh on DM KR 5. You will know then that A DM can conduct 5 PADI Programs (assuming you get to be a DSD Leader as well). They are:
i. Scuba Review / Reactivate.
ii. Discover Scuba Diving.
iii. Discover Local Diving.
iv. Skin Diver.
v. Discover Snorkeling.
8. You will be provided with the PADI Instructor Manual in your DM Crewpack. You read up General Standards and Procedures page 1 to 40. These pages will tell you the common requirements for conducting all PADI courses and programs.
9. You then read up the above DM conducted programs in the Instructor manual.
10. Your Instructor will confirm your knowledge of the PADI Standards and Procedures you need to know in discussion sessions with you.
11. PADI Standards and Procedures Exam. You then take the Part 1 of the DM Exam. Open book exam, meaning you can refer to the Instructor Manual and the Padi Guide to Teaching (recommended purchase).
12. All the materials you need will be provided for when you sign up for the DM Course.
Next, Stamina Requirements.
13. 5 x Confined Water / Pool stamina requirements -
i. 400m swim,
ii. Treading water for 15 mins.
iii. Exchange of Equipment underwater whilst buddy breathing,
iv. Inert Diver Tow of 100m,
v. Snorkel Swim 800 m.
You need to complete all and score at least 15 out a possible 25 with at least a 3 in serial iii.
Next, Rescue Demo
14. Demo the surfacing of an unresponsive diver underwater to removing all dive gear on the surface from both of you and then exit to boat, platform or beach.
15. Next, Demo Skills in Confined Water. You must get at least 82 points from a maximum of 120 points in the 24 basic skills such as Mask Remove and Replace, Hovering, Alternate Air Source Breathing,.......... You need to have one 5 in any skill and nom skill less than 3.
16. Next, Practical Skills. You go to the sea where you learn / complete 5 exercises - (1 - 2 days sufficient)

Deep Diving scenario
17. 5 Workshops:
Skin Diver or snorkeling supervision
Scuba Review / Reactivate
DSD in confined water
DSD in open water
Discover Local Diving
Finally, Practical Assessments. (1 to 2 days sufficient)
17. Role Play Option. Your instructor simulate the assisting of role playing diver students where you show how you assist and solve diving problems in 3 scenarios:
1. Open Water Course divers in confined water.
2. Open Water Course divers in open water.
3. Continued Education Course divers (Adventures in Diving /
Specialties) in open water
Lastly #4. You brief, manage and debrief a group of leisure divers. There must be at least 4 leisure divers for you to manage.
When you have met all the Requirements above including no of dives (60), you will then be a professional member of PADI (After payments to PADI of course he he he......! ).
